Navigating MVP Constraints
For the MVP, our goal was to design an order creation form and a ‘My Orders’ page. For the form, based on our research insights, we set out to make incremental changes to the UX, so as to not drastically move from the user’s mental model of order creation.
Some of the constraints were:
-
The order creation should happen on a single page form.
-
Customers should be able to build their orders over time, filling as many sections of the form as they want.
-
Use the existing design system provided by the client.
-
Design a wizard mode for novice users.
With these constraints in mind, we asked:
How might we enable the customer to progressively build their order over time, view their order details and track them effectively?

A prominent rail freight company needs help revamping their order management system (OMS).
Currently, their UI is outdated, there are visibility issues, and the functionalities for order management are scattered.
Why is it important?
250+ VoCs
indicating dissatisfaction with the current order creation experience.
Growing product capability
indicates dissatisfaction with the current order creation experience.
We synthesized the VoCs, conducted domain-expert interviews, spoke to product managers + client, and found that there are different user groups placing an order through this system. We created 4 personas to map them out. This helped identify and prioritize problems.

The Challenge
Logistics managers across businesses are finding it challenging to efficiently place their freight container orders using our client’s current Order Management System (OMS). The process is lengthy, confusing, and burdensome. With the addition of new product features, a complete revamp of the OMS is necessary.
The Solution
The strategy was aimed at accommodating new product features and streamlining the order management process incrementally to ensure customers are not disoriented by changes in the platform. The MVP integrated the different tools to create and manage orders into one platform.
Enabling Product Feature Decisions
Drove discussions with the stakeholders using wireframes to help envision new product features.
Conducted UATs
Conducted user acceptance tests with the clients to ensure usability
Enforced Design System
Enforced the client’s design system in and tracked discrepancies between the Abstract version and Github version
Streamlined Hand-off Process
Adapted hand-off processes to suit developer needs; Logged and shared UX changes to get teams on the same page
This was my first real-world UX job and I worked in cross-functional teams and learnt about constraints, became an agile practitioner, and understood how developer hand-offs should be done.
What I learnt:
Advocating for UX
Conducting UATs with the clients to have them click through the flow to first-hand experience the issues with deprioritizing some features.
Communicating often
Even if it’s a 10 min sync/asynch update - reduced discrepancies.
Getting the job done w/o fancy tools
The hand-off system was adapted to make it easier for the developers since they were not comfortable with Abstract. We shared PDFs and set up calls to take them through the flow pre-sprint.
I'm unable to share any details of my work due to an NDA, but feel free to email me if you'd like to learn more.
I led the content team for a two-time award winning employee engagement initiative. Writing content for marketing materials, social media, events, and information resources helped me realize how important clear and engaging communication is in shaping a great user experience. Writing in different contexts taught me how to craft content that connects with people, guides them naturally, and adds value to their overall experience with a product.
I worked on designing a generative AI dashboard design for a last mile delivery company in road logistics. The AI-agent helped streamline the Logistics Manager’s tasks by providing suitable actions from the insights generated. We employed storytelling to deliver a successful pitch that helped secure a valuable client.
